NPC is thrilled to celebrate Charis Johnson, who has been named to the prestigious All-Arizona Academic Team! 聽She has been awarded a tuition waiver valued at more than $20,000 to cover up to 60 credits at one of Arizona鈥檚 three public universities. 馃帀
Charis's future is taking flight on and off the stage. She is currently studying performing arts at NPC and will earn her associate鈥檚 degree this spring with a perfect 4.0 GPA. She plans to transfer to Arizona State University to continue her studies. 鈥淚 have been drawn to performing arts since childhood,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 love every bit of any kind of art, but there is something special about performing it. The connection to the audience, the vulnerability, the stories told. I love it,鈥 she said. Although she recognizes the challenge of making it 鈥渂ig鈥 as an actress, she has never wavered in her passion. 鈥淚 changed my major several times trying to find something that excited me as much as acting,鈥 she explained. 鈥淏ut nothing does. So, I just decided one day that I didn鈥檛 want to pretend anymore. I wasn鈥檛 going to keep trying to force myself into doing something I didn鈥檛 want to do.鈥 She said, 鈥淚 love acting. That鈥檚 it, and I鈥檓 going to do it no matter what.鈥
Charis recently played the role of Shelby Eaton in NPC鈥檚 production of Steel Magnolias and is currently rehearsing for NPC鈥檚 upcoming production of Emma. She successfully fought and conquered her stage fright and has excelled in the roles she has played. In her spare time, in addition to polishing her performances, Charis flies airplanes. She is close to completing her pilot鈥檚 license. When it comes to her future, the sky is the limit. 鈥淚 feel like I can do anything now. I have so much room to grow. I can鈥檛 wait to see where my passion will take me.鈥
With talent, perseverance, and passion guiding her path, the sky is truly the limit. Congratulations, Charis! 馃挋鉁堬笍馃憦
